Fall Classic 10k (at One Loudoun) Race Report

Yesterday, my twin brother and I ran the Fall Classic 10k in One Loudoun. The race was organized by Potomac River Running (prraces.com). They have many races throughout the year all over northern Virginia and always do a good job (chip timing, volunteers, blocking off roads, snacks, drinks, sponsors, etc.)

I ran this same race 2 years ago. The weather always seems perfect at this time of year for racing. It was right around 50 degrees, crisp and cool. The course is relatively flat but has a few gradual hills early on. The race starts and ends in One Loudoun but runs through the surrounding neighborhood for most of the course.

Two years ago, I ran 46:01 (7:24/mi). This time, I ran 46:57 (7:34/mi). It’s an improvement from earlier this year, but two years ago I was training seriously for the Revel Kulia Marathon (race report) in Hawaii and was in slightly better shape.

Here are my mile splits:
Mile 1: 7:22
Mile 2: 7:30
Mile 3: 7:42
Mile 4: 7:48
Miles 5, 6, and the last 0.2: 16:35 (7:32/mi); GPS on my watch was off so calculating it off final time assuming course was 6.2 miles

Total: 46:57 (7:34/mi pace over 6.2 miles)

I got an age group award and got a $15 GC to Potomac River Running (yay!).

I ran this race with my brother. We used to be on the cross country team in middle school and high school, but we haven’t run a race together in a really long time. He ran a 59:12 (9:32/mi) without really training.

I’m scheduled to run a trail ultramarathon (Potomac Heritage 50k) and a half marathon (Rock n Roll DC) next month. Stay tuned for those race reports.
